EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

A year of varied learning

In 2025, BCACC offered a rich blend of learning opportunities to reach many different kinds of counsellors, supporting members at every stage of their professional journey.

We offered over 40, workshops, Lunch & Learns, Town Halls, public “Matters of the Mind” webinars, info sessions, and major events like the Clinical Supervision Summit and our fall Conference. As we moved toward the end of the year, our educational offerings began to take on an even stronger sense of community, even when they were delivered online.

Serving many populations and needs

The 2025 program reflected a clear intention to prepare RCCs to serve a wide range of people and communities. Workshops addressed the needs of children, teens, caregivers, couples, first responders, neurodivergent clients, clients with brain injuries, and people affected by war and displacement.

Sessions such as “Working with Kids in High Conflict Divorce,” “Caregivers & teens,” and “Transforming Problematic Caregiver Patterns” supported clinicians working with families under strain.

“Understanding and Supporting Clients with Brain Injury and Concussion,” “Demand Avoidance in Autism,” and “From War to Resettlement” helped counsellors work more confidently with complex and often underserved populations.

Public “Matters of the Mind” events on loneliness, teens and caregivers, and suicide prevention brought RCC expertise directly to British Columbians and helped reduce stigma.

Supporting every career stage

The 2025 programming was designed to support members from being a student all the way through to senior supervisor, creating visible pathways for growth.

Supervision and community

A highlight of 2025 was our in‑person Clinical Supervision Summit, which sold out and drew supervisors from across the province for a full day of advanced learning and reflection.

The program combined:

  • a morning focus on decolonizing clinical supervision
  • and an afternoon on supervision‑of‑supervision, giving participants space to deepen their skills and rethink how they support colleagues and supervisees.

We offered the Summit in a hybrid format, expanding access for members across BC while addressing the need for more in-person face‑to‑face learning and connection.

Blending clinical, ethical, and business skills

The year’s workshops did more than build clinical skills; they helped members run sustainable, ethical practices while also offering guidance to navigate changes taking place within the profession.

The programming was intentionally planned out to balance client‑focused training with ethics, standards, and business fundamentals that counsellors need to thrive.

Extending the offerings beyond the live workshop

Many of these 2025 workshops were recorded and made available on learn.bcacc.ca, extending their reach beyond the live session. This means that members across BC, regardless of region or schedule, could return to key topics, earn CE credits, and keep building skills when it worked for them.
